The Art of Alan Snell
Alan Snell

Alan Snell

Alan Snell started his interest in art at a young age. Initially working in pencil and various other media, he currently does most of his paintings in acrylic. Most of his original paintings are then printed in small limited edition gicleé (zee-clay) prints that Snell prints himself. Gicleés are high quality prints created with archival inks, and printed on acid-free conservation papers and canvases.

He has also done three-dimensional work in clay and wax which is then made into bronze sculpture. His first bronze, "The Frontiersman," has been successful and he hopes to do more bronzes in the future. Snell received formal training for Graphic Arts and Advertising Design at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, Colorado.

His fine art is mostly self taught and has received many awards and recognition for his art. He was chosen in 2006 as "Artist of the Year" by the Chamber of Commerce. He has done commissions for companies and organizations such as: United States Olympic Committee, McGraw Hill Publishing, Montana Sled Dog, Inc., Mountain West Bank, Intermountain Childrens Home, Trihydro Corporation, Texaco Oil, among various other companies, corporations and private collectors.

Snell's realistic and detailed style does not allow him to be prolific taking many hours to accomplish a painting; he only completes a few originals a year. In each piece of art created by Snell, he places a cross somewhere in each work as his personal recognition of the origin of his talent.

A native of Montana, Snell and his family are currently living in Helena and owns his gallery and frameshop, Bear's Den Custom Framing & Gallery.
